Things can get messy and disorganised when moving home. In fact, disorganised moving will increase the amount of time you need to spend packing and unpacking at your new home. With proper planning, a move will be efficient and streamlined to ensure that the whole process takes as little time as possible.
First of all, get a calendar and write down all the important dates for moving on it. Highlight days such as the moving van arriving, days when friends might be coming over to help, days to go to the recycling centre to get rid of big items etc. Set reminders on your phone and keep everyone involved to task.
A good schedule will keep a good balance of work spread throughout the month or week so that it doesn’t all pile up at the end leaving you under serious pressure and stress.
Make an inventory
devise a list of your belongings and categorise them. Go through your house and put little colour stickers on items so that you and everyone knows which boxes they should go in and where they are to be put in the new home.
Sort into as few boxes as possible while making sure no box is overloaded. Mark each box clearly and place the ready-to-go boxes out of the way for now but somewhere easily accessible to the front door for the moving part.
Arrange your materials and tools such as tape, bubble wrap and empty boxes ahead of time so that when it comes to the move, you are completely ready to start without interruption. Make sure everyone involved know where they are so that there’s no shouts for tape and frantic searches around the house for bubble wrap.
Get rid of as many unnecessary items as you can. Bringing as little as possible to your new house is the best way to reduce the stress of moving. It’ll make things a lot easier to organise and best of all, you won’t be bringing clutter into your new residence.
The day of the actual move, get up that little bit early so you’re not rushing later. If a van is coming, make sure you are ready for them and give them a call to confirm they’re on time. Having taken the previous tips into consideration, you should have an array of neatly packed boxes ready to be picked up and transported painlessly to your new residence.
All that’s left is to unpack your belongings in the new place which is made easier because the movers have put them in the correct rooms because of your labels!
